Two Worlds

Students were asked to create an object using found materials. They used the art of Brian Jungen to inspire their work. 
The Statement of Inquiry is : What effect do ENVIRONMENTS have on the artifacts made by (local) artists?

Deer parade (art movements)

Line of Inquiry: Artist who are associated because they share similar styles, ideas, aims or point of view often form groups known as ‘art movements.’
Students were given this graphic organizer to analyze "What's in a movement."

This project originally started with chairs when I worked in Chiang Mai, Thailand 

The beginning of the deer consist of 3  thumbnail sketches that encompass the rules of the student's chosen movement:

Sense of Place -  Sense of Saigon:

GOAL: Your goal is to demonstrate how the identity of human and natural landscapes can be interpreted and presented.
ROLE: You are an artist creating a work to be included in a group exhibition that presents the identity of Saigon through its landscapes.
AUDIENCE: Your work will be on display in the Admissions Building and will be seen by new parents and students.
SITUATION: The Admissions Building houses promotion material about the school and HCMC, and is the first place most people see when visiting the school. The people seeing your work may be new to the city and new to the school and the work will fulfill the need to show them ISHCMC students' interpretations of the city.
PRODUCT: You will create
  • A process journal demonstrating the skills specified in standards below
  • A carefully produced artist's book
